Everyone likes something for nothing. But if you are serious about blogging online to make money, using a free blogging platform will not get you to your goal.

Don’t get me wrong, this article is not to discourage you from wanting to create a free blog using any of the free platforms (Blogger.com, Wix.com, WordPress.com, etc.) but to explain the disadvantages you will encounter.

Yes, there are a few reasons to use a free blogging platform and we will go over that in a minute.

why never use free blogging platform

Disadvantages of Free Blogging Platforms

Space is Very Limited

You will have a very limited amount of bandwidth for your free blog.

Because of that, your readers may have a very poor experience viewing your page or any videos.

The free blogging platform may also limit how many posts your blog can have.

Unable to Add Interactive Features with Free Blogging Platforms

You will not be able to add any interactive features you may want (or need) to your blog.

This can include surveys, quizzes, forms, online ordering, membership sites, live chat, etc.

Search Engines Often Ignore

Search engines usually ignore free blogging platforms as there is usually not a lot of quality content on the blogs, numerous outbound links, very few inbound links, and may have outdated information.

Do a search on Google, do any of the free hosting platforms come up in your search?

Most of the time, they don’t.

Being ignored will allow you to lose out on a lot of targeted traffic and can lead to a quick death of your goal of making money online.

Lack of Credibility and Professionalism Using Free Blogging Platform

Creating a free blog may give your visitors a reason to doubt your credibility and professionalism.

Because you are not paying for a domain name your free blog URL would look like https://www.mygreatblog.blogger.com.

Having a free domain URL, many visitors will not return and that is to say, if they even find your blog.

Advertising Banners

All of the free blogging platforms will use your content to place their promotional advertising banners and/or popup ads on all of your blog posts.

You will not receive any compensation for these advertising venues and if you do receive any compensation, it will be very minimal.

No Guarantee of Blog Availability or Longevity

When you use a free blogging platform, they will not guarantee that your blog will always be available for you to use.

At any time, they can deactivate your blog and all the work you have put into it is gone.

No Branded email Address

The free blogging platforms do not have branded blogging addresses available.

An example would be admin@mygreatblog.com.

Using a branded email address can build professionalism and credibility.

Lack of Help and Support Options

Before, during, and after launching a blog you may have many questions.

The free platforms have very little help and support for you to use.

Limited Affiliate Programs to Join

Some affiliate programs may not let you join using a free blog. This could lock you out of a lot of potential to make money online.

Why Use a Free Blogging Platform?

Maybe you need a temporary website for a school project, advertise an event, etc. and you know it won’t be around for a long time.

But if your long-term goal for your site is to build it into a business to earn money from home, then you really need to invest a little money since free hosting does not lend any credibility, professionalism and all the reasons stated above.

Which Platform Should You Use?

WordPress.org.

WordPress is free to use to create your site but you will need to have a self-hosted site.

Having a self-hosted site gives you complete control over you whole site, from themes, plugins, ways to make money and much more.

Don’t be worried about trying to create a self-hosted site. I walk you through every step you need to get your site up and running quickly.

These will help you get started on your blogging journey.

From starting your blog to help you create content. This site will help you.

Are You Worried About the Cost to Create a Blog?

Yes, I understand.

Money is tight.

But if you use Bluehost, you can get a free domain name with a hosting plan. A hosting plan is between $5 and $8 a month.

You can use Google Adsense or any of the thousands of internet affiliate programs online to help you cover the cost.

In Conclusion

I really do hope you don’t invest a lot of time and energy into using a free blogging platform and find one day that it has disappeared.
