Create Free Website - Should You?

Everyone likes something for nothing, but should you really create a free website?

This article is not to discourage you from wanting to create a free website using any of the free providers but show you the disadvantages, especially if you are wanting to make money on the internet.

There are reasons to use this type of freebie and I will explain a little further down in this article the reasons people would want to use it.

Disadvantages

• Space very limited to create web pages
• Unable to add interactive features (chat rooms, message boards, games, online ordering etc.)
• Search engines often ignore these sites (A HUGE disadvantage to try to make money online)
• Visitors may doubt your credibility and professionalism
• May have promotional banners and/or pop ads on all (or many) of your pages 
• Difficult to remember web address (instead of yourdomain.com)
• No guarantees of site availability and longevity (here today, gone tomorrow) 
• No branded emails addresses (you@yourdomain.com)
• Lack of help and support options (if any) 
• May not be free forever
• Unable to join a lot of the affiliate programs to make money online

Advantages

• Easy to remember website address (yourdomain.com) 
• No banners or popups
• Easier to get listed in search engines (Google, Yahoo, Ask etc.) 
• You have complete control over look and feel of your website 
• Multiple branded email addresses (you@yourdomain.com) 
• Plenty of web page space for site expansion 
• No worries of site being removed unexpectedly
• Looks more professional and adds credibility
• More flexibility for design, creativity and functionality 
• Help is readily available 
• Able to get into any affiliate program or use advertising to cover costs

Even though there are as many disadvantages as advantages of the above information, in the Internet world, these are major differences on how people look at sites.

Create Web Site for People to Find

One of the biggest disadvantages listed above is that the search engines often ignore the sites people create using free providers.

The reason they ignore the freebie sites is because most of the time there's not a lot of quality content, many outbound links, very few inbound link, could have a lot of broken links and may have outdated information.

Being ignored, you will lose out on a lot of targeted traffic and can lead to a quick death of your goal of making money online.

Take a quick look now on Google, when you do a search for anything, do you see the free hosting web pages come up in your search?

Most of the time these sites do not since a lot of them don't include good original content.

Why Use Free Web Hosting

Here are a few reasons for needing a create a free website. Maybe you need a temporary web site (school project, advertise an event, etc.) and you know it won't be around for a long time. Or perhaps you just can't afford to invest in the cost of a web site right now. That is understandable.

But if your long-term goal for your site is to build it into a business to earn extra income at home, then you really need to invest a little money since free hosting does not lend any credibility nor professionalism to you.

Are you worried about the cost? The monthly maintenance for a hosting plan is between $5 and $10 a month and you could use Google Adsense or any of the thousands of internet affiliate programs online to help you cover the cost.

I really do hope that you don't invest a lot of time into building a free one since you may try to get into one day and find that it has disappeared and with little or no customer support to let you know what happened to all your hard work.
