Find Niche (Step 2)

Niche Marketing Definition: Seek out smaller segments of larger markets, a site can be developed and promoted quickly to serve a targeted portion of the population.

If you're having problems finding niche ideas, here's many  website niche ideas.

Target a niche market you're interested in because the "work" that needs done will not feel like "work". It will feel more like playtime than work since the keyword and market research process will be enjoyable and engaging to you.

Your niche marketing strategy starts the process in finding a profitable niche to make money online. This "how to" can help you find your niche market but take your time.

Pick 3 or 4 ideas when you are in the process of finding your niche to cut down on time if a few don't work.

How to Find a Niche Market

  1. eBay niche. Go to the home page, click on the tab for "buy" and scan all of the different categories.

Say you are interested in sports. When you click on the category title, it shows all the categories within that: Exercise and Fitness, Golf, Hunting, Fishing, Archery and the list goes on.

You enjoy golfing. Any of the sub-categories could be made into a niche website. You could create a site on just books and videos for golfing.

eBay is a great place to start finding a niche by searching through the completed listing to see what products are people are buying.

You must be signed in to view the completed listings.

If you are not registered, you can sign-up for free. Go to advanced search and put in your product name. Under where you type your keyword, click on the box that says Completed Listings Only.

  2. You can build a profitable niche store using this software.

  3. Amazon, what are the bestsellers.

  4. Any major retailer and review the bestsellers. Many times this will help in finding a niche you may not have thought about.

  5. Your self-help books.

  6. Specialized information you know from your current job.

  7. Your hobby or special interest.

  8. You have expert knowledge from a previous job

Reseach Niche Product

You need to make sure the products have not already saturated the market.

  • How many other people are selling it?
  • Is it an affiliate marketer or dropship?
  • Selling on any of the auction sites?
  • Can you sell it cheaper?
  • Would it be a profitable niche for you?

1. Let's say your niche item is called super duper lose.

Go to Google advanced search (next to the search button) and type in super duper lose in the Find Results with the exact phrase.

Change results to show 100. Go to the bottom of the last page. If this number is under 1000 or so, then this may be a great niche idea. Under the relevant results on the last page, you will also see other searches people use to find that are  relevant.

2. Check on auction sites.

Search and see how many listings come up and see if it is being bid on. Also check the completed listing.

Scan this list to see: 1. If your product is selling well. 2. How much is it selling for. 3. Would it be worth your time getting into that niche.

3. Scope out your competition and see how they are selling it.

Finding your competition: do step one and look at the first 5 - 10 sites and find out how they are selling it.

You may find the top 5 - 10 are huge companies.

Further down you should be able to find the "small stores", How is their site layout? Informational? "how to"? Like their design? Is it just a landing page (sales letter) for the product or is it relevant content?

When doing keyword research find the keywords people are searching for that indicate they are in a mindset to buy, such as, "buy...", "how to...", "purchase...", etc...
