No matter what you are building, you need to have a good
design. As with websites, if the design is bad, it could lead
to its downfall. You don't need to be a professional graphics
artist or website designer but you need to make sure you are
not missing important parts or pieces. If you are, your website
could suffer:
- Receiving no traffic because the search engine spiders
have a hard time crawling your site
- Your visitors do not stay long on your site because
they are frustrated
While you have been surfing around the Internet, did you
came across many websites that were badly designed. Did you
stay long on that site? On the websites that you came across,
why do you think they were a bad design or even a good one?
Of the sites you liked - what set it off? The colors,
images, location of navigational menus?
What about the sites that you did not like? Did they use
pop-ups that would not stop? Continuous music? Colors that made
the text difficult to read? Font to small?
When you are building your website, look at the design from
a visitors point of view. You don't need a professional web
site design company to make a great looking websites
you can do it yourself, just take time with
it.
If you are using a site builder, you should have no problems
finding a website design template built in the software package
to fit your theme. If not, there are many nice looking free
design templates you can use to start out.
No matter what type of site you are creating, it may be
easier to start out with a simple web site design. As time goes
by and your website evolves you can add more flair to it.
You can optimize your site all you want for the search
engine spiders, but you have to make sure it is human
friendly.
