A cheap domain name registration service is Godaddy. A domain price is usually $9.99 (US) per year. They usually have a "special offer". If you purchase any web hosting plan you get a domain for $1.99 (US) for the first year, which is the cheapest price I have ever found (other than free of course).

The renewal rate for a domain is usually $9.99 (US) per year. That is still a good price.

They may not have the cheapest prices on the internet, even if you are going to buy a few names or register bulk names, it is easier to keep them all in one place.

I have found you can buy names cheaper at other registars on the internet, but then noticed once my term was up they were going to charge $20.00 (and up) for renewal.

Bulk Registration

If you are buying a name because of a business you own or plan on building a huge website, you may want to look at buying your domain name in bulk.

Example: Google.com wanted to make sure no one was able to ride on their coat tails.

So they bulk registered, dot com, dot org, dot info, dot net, etc.

If you want to register domain names in bulk, GoDaddy gives a discount when you buy 6 or more.

Private Registration

When registering your domain name, the registrar service offers you public or private registration.

A public registration means any individual, by using Whois lookup service, has the ability to check out who owns a domain name and can see your personal information, like: name, address, phone number and much more.

Depending on the nature of your site, you might consider paying the additional charge for private registration, as this restricts viewing your information to avoid spam and crank messages.

Price of private registration is usually under $10.00 a year and many times it's worth the price.

Free Domain Registration And Web Hosting

There are many hosting services that offer free domain name registration when you buy a hosting plan.

If you find a hosting company that offers this, make sure that it is not a special promotion.

Many resellers (of hosting) offer this promo but when your renewal time comes around charges you for hosting plan plus an outrageous price for renewing your domain name.
