15 Tips For Choosing A Domain Name-part 2
One Name Enough?
When choosing a domain name, you want to make sure you look at other variations of your domain and register
them at the same time (bulk registering).
By bulk registering, you save money in the long run.
All Domains - One Registrar
Choosing the cheapest domain registar may be more difficult and cost more money in the long run. Many of the
domain registrars that are low cost are resellers.
Some resellers may not provide the features that a bigger registrar service.
By registering domains with different registrars, you may encounter a difficult time keeping
up when they are up for renewal or even remembering where they are.
I personally recommend GoDaddy to register all your domains as they have been around for
years, discount prices for buying/renewing (6 or more) of your domains, auto renewal feature, cash
parking and easy domain forwarding.
Register Personal Name?
If you are a consultant,
writer, freelancer, small business owner or any other professional person, then register your own
first and last name as your URL.
You can either forward your
personal name to your site or use the name as your business site.
Don't Forget .mobi Names
With mobile devices
becoming extremely popular, big companies are starting to register and develop their .mobi sites
specifically for the mobile users.
You might not
want to build out a .mobi site just now but mobile usage is continually growing
daily and you may be glad that name is yours in just a few years.
Register names For Long Term
Once you've chosen
your main domain names, register for a minimum of several years so they don’t expire and leave your
visitors finding an error page.
By using GoDaddy, the longest
term you can register is ten years. If you plan on building a business with the names, it is worth the cost to
purchase your names for the long term.
Search Engines also sees
value when a person registers a domain name for a longer period of time as these sites are less likely to
spam.
Register Typos?
Many people type incorrect spelling of words into their browers and you can use this to your advantage
when you are choosing a name.
You can do keyword research on typos for your keyword words/phrase.
Your Company Name
Choosing to register your business name makes sense. If you are catering to a local market, that is
how they know your company and many people within your area will just type in your company name. Even if you
are not going to be creating a website right away it is still a good idea to register it.
This way when you are ready to build your site, your company name is reserved for you.
Register your Domain Now
With people snatching up domains by the thousands every day, it is wise to get your domain registered
now.
You don't even need to create any web pages for them, but once you have chosen your name, it is best to register
it now as it may not be there for long.
